Vive Shower Stool: a simple round seat for smaller showers
Not every bathroom has room for a full shower chair, and not every person wants one. Sometimes all that is needed is a place to sit for a few minutes while washing. The Vive Shower Stool is the most pared-down seat in our bathroom range, and it is now on our shelf. Here is what Vive publishes about it.
What it is and who it suits
Picture a small round seat on slim legs with nonslip tips, with no back and no arms. That is the stool. Its frame is aluminum, which keeps it light, and the seat surface is textured composite. Vive's page presents it as a good match for walk-in showers and for tubs on the narrow side.
Because it has nothing to lean against and nothing to push up from, a stool suits someone who sits steadily on their own and mainly wants a rest from standing. If the user would benefit from a backrest or handles, a shower chair is the better choice; if getting over the tub wall is the hard part, look at a transfer bench. Both are listed below.
Height is easy to change. Assembly and adjustment both happen without tools, and as the seat goes up, the base widens slightly. The stool also comes apart when it needs to go into a closet or a car. Vive notes that it is latex-free.
Key specs
These figures come from Vive's product page for the Shower Stool:
- Weight capacity: 250 pounds
- Seat width: 12.5 inches (round)
- Seat height: adjustable from 13.7 to 20.7 inches
- Base width: 13 to 14 inches, depending on height
- Frame: lightweight aluminum
- Seat: textured composite
- Latex-free: yes
- Shipping weight: 5 lbs
To find a good seat height, have the user sit on a kitchen chair and measure from the floor to the back of the knee. A stool set near that height usually lets the feet rest flat. The seven-inch adjustment range covers a lot of people, but it is worth checking before you order.
Thinking about the space
A small footprint is the stool's main strength, so it is worth confirming how small your shower really is. Measure the floor of the stall or tub, then picture where the user's feet will go once seated. Leave room to turn without knees hitting the wall. If the shower has a sill or step, check that the stool can be lifted in easily by whoever sets it up. These are ordinary checks, and they save a lot of second-guessing.
What's in the box
Vive lists the shower stool itself as the contents.
