Smirthwaite Buddy Size 2: a panda stander with an extra height setting

Children grow, and equipment that grows a little with them is easier to live with. The Smirthwaite Buddy Size 2 is the bigger of the two Buddy standers, and an extra height setting gives it a longer span of use. It is new on our shelf, and here are the details Smirthwaite publishes.

What it is and who it suits

Like its smaller sibling, Buddy Size 2 is an entry-level vertical stander. It is meant for children needing a low to moderate level of support when they bear weight. This one wears a panda design. Its extra height setting lets the frame stand taller, and Smirthwaite gives an approximate age span of 4 to 12 years as a result.

Age is only a rough guide, though. Smirthwaite asks that the stander be sized from its technical data, meaning the child's own measurements matched to the support ranges below. A therapist or clinician can advise on size and set-up.

The chest, pelvic and knee supports all move along the frame, and the tray gives the child somewhere to rest their hands, play or work while standing.

Notice how wide the knee support range is on this size, running from just above the foot board to well up the frame. That range, together with the two frame heights, is what lets one stander cover so many years. The base frame is larger than Buddy Size 1's, so check the floor space where it will stand, and the doorway it will pass through on its way there.
