Smirthwaite Manual Height Shower Stretcher: hand-set, stores upright

Between a fixed-height stretcher and a powered one sits a third option: a stretcher whose height you change by hand. The Smirthwaite Shower Stretcher, Manual Height works that way, and it stores upright against the wall. It is now on our shelf, and this post covers what Smirthwaite publishes about it.

What it is and who it suits

Smirthwaite made this stretcher for bathrooms where space is tight. It mounts to the wall, and between showers it folds up into a vertical position so the floor is clear. It can be used by children and adults.

The height is set with an adjustment handle rather than a motor, so there is no battery to charge or handset to keep dry. Smirthwaite is clear on one rule here: do not adjust the height while someone is lying on the stretcher. Set it first, then make the transfer.

Smirthwaite covers the lying surface in a tough vinyl it describes as non-rip, and the frame is powder coated stainless steel. A therapist or clinician can advise on size and set-up for the person who will use it.

Key specs

Smirthwaite publishes these figures in metric. They come from Smirthwaite's Shower Stretcher Adjustable Height product sheet:

  • Maximum user weight: 200 kg
  • Height range: 450 mm to 800 mm
  • Length: 1700 mm for size 4, 1900 mm for size 6
  • Width: 650 mm
  • Height adjustment: by hand, with an adjustment handle
  • Storage: folds up vertically
  • Surface: non-rip vinyl
  • Frame: powder coated stainless steel

On our product page the two sizes are also shown in inches: 66.9 by 25.6 in (size 4) and 74.8 by 25.6 in (size 6). If you need the user weight or height range in pounds and inches, contact us and we will send the conversion alongside Smirthwaite's metric figures, so nothing gets lost in rounding.

What's in the box

Smirthwaite's product sheet does not list the package contents. If you need to know exactly which parts arrive, contact us before you order.

Walls and mounting

Smirthwaite says a brick or concrete wall will hold the stretcher without a backing board. For hollow walls or soft insulation block, it recommends fitting one. Check your wall before delivery day.

Warranty

Smirthwaite's terms and conditions state:

  • Materials and workmanship are under warranty for 2 years from the date of delivery.
  • Accident, neglect, misuse, not following the instructions and normal wear and tear are excluded.
  • Not following the instructions may invalidate the warranty.
  • Claims go through Smirthwaite Customer Services, who advise on next steps.
