Smirthwaite Easi-Lift Shower Stretcher: powered, wall-mounted bathing

Showering lying down takes a surface that can get wet, hold steady and rise to a height the caregiver can work at. The Smirthwaite Easi-Lift Shower Stretcher does that from a frame on the wall, without a single fixing in the floor. We have added it to our shelf, and this post gathers what Smirthwaite says about it.

What it is and who it suits

The Easi-Lift is a stretcher for bathing and changing. A motor in the wall frame raises and lowers the stretcher, and a handset controls it, so the person helping can bring the user up to a working height and back down again. When the shower is over, the stretcher folds up and out of the way.

The reason for the wall-only design is practical. Smirthwaite points out that some bathrooms cannot take floor fixings because of how the floor is built or because pipes and cables run across it. In those rooms, a floor-standing stretcher is not an option, and this one is.

It is built for indoor use, on a powder-coated stainless steel frame. There are two lengths, and each can be ordered with or without a headrest. A therapist or clinician can advise on size and set-up for the person who will use it.

Key specs

These figures come from Smirthwaite's Easi-Lift Shower Stretcher page:

  • Maximum user weight: 441 lb
  • Height travel: 17.7 to 37.4 in
  • Length: 55.1 in for size 1, 74.8 in for size 6
  • Table width: 25.6 in; 39.4 in including the safety guard
  • Safety guard height: 5.7 in
  • Wall frame: 29.5 in wide, 4.3 in deep, 52 in high
  • Folded width: 10.6 in, or 15 in with the drip tray
  • Product weight: 181 lb for size 1, 192 lb for size 6
  • Frame: powder-coated stainless steel

When you plan the space, measure two ways. Open, the stretcher with its guard reaches 39.4 in into the room, so the caregiver needs room to stand beside it. Folded, it sits about 10.6 in proud of the wall. Also note that drywall or stud walls need a backing board, which Smirthwaite sells separately.
