Pride Pursuit 2: a lithium outdoor scooter up to 9.3 mph

Now on our shelf: the Pride Pursuit 2, model SC7132. Pride built it for outdoor riding and says it can handle brush, branches and mud (Pride Mobility: Pursuit 2). Its purpose is distance and speed beyond what an everyday scooter offers.

Who it suits

If your outings include trails, lawns or long loops around a neighborhood, the Pursuit 2 is designed for that. Pride fits 13-inch pneumatic tires mounted on split rims, CTS suspension at both ends and LED lighting. Top speed is up to 9.3 mph, and it carries riders up to 400 lbs.

It is a large machine. At 57.5 inches long and 29.7 inches wide, with a 69.3-inch turning radius, it needs open space to turn around. Fitted with the standard battery, it comes to 242.6 lbs. This is a scooter you store in a garage or carport, not one you load into a trunk.

Key specs

Figures from Pride Mobility's specification sheet:

  • Model number: SC7132
  • Weight capacity: 400 lbs.
  • Maximum speed: up to 9.3 mph
  • Range per charge: up to 40 miles (dual lithium configuration)
  • Turning radius: 69.3"
  • Overall length: 57.5"
  • Overall width: 29.7"
  • Ground clearance: 3.8" at axle
  • Tires: 13" pneumatic front and rear
  • Weight: 242.6 lbs. with standard battery
  • Battery: 25 volt, 50Ah lithium ion (23.8 lbs.)

Lithium power

The Pursuit 2 runs on lithium, with a 50AH or 100AH version. With dual lithium batteries, Pride's figure is as much as 40 miles on a charge, which is a lot of riding for one day. The standard battery is a 25-volt, 50Ah lithium-ion pack weighing 23.8 lbs, and the charger is an 8 amp off-board unit.

Comfort

The high-back seat is 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with limited recline and sliders, and sits 21.9 to 24.9 inches off the floor. The tiller has a USB charger for your phone. Pneumatic tires give a cushioned ride but need their pressure checked, so keep a gauge handy.

Colors are matte gray, orange or black. If you are new to scooters, a model this quick is best learned slowly: start in an open, quiet place and build up to longer rides as you get used to how it handles.

Before you order

  • Storage: plan a garage or carport with an outlet; it is a heavy machine, as the weight in the list above shows.
  • Room to turn: a 69.3-inch turning radius needs open ground.
  • Battery: decide between the 50AH and 100AH versions based on how far you ride.
  • Upkeep: pneumatic tires need their pressure checked from time to time.
  • Speed: get to know the scooter at low speed first, and follow the owner's manual for slopes and rough ground.

Before you choose, our fit assessment asks about your home, your car and your usual trips, and the shipping by state page explains delivery to the lower 48 states and DC.
