Open Sesame residential door opener: unlatch, open and close

A heavy door can be harder than any step. Holding it open while rolling through, then turning to pull it shut, is a lot to ask of anyone using a wheelchair, a walker or crutches. The Open Sesame Residential Automatic Door Opener, new on our shelf, does that work for you.

What it is and who it suits

This is Open Sesame's Model 133. On its product page, Open Sesame describes a professional grade system that releases the lock, swings the door open, waits, and closes it again, all without anyone touching the door. It is designed for any free swinging door, such as a front door, an apartment door, an office door or a bathroom door.

The unlatching is done by an electric strike: a release fitted in the door frame that frees the latch so the operator can swing the door. The result is a door that stays locked when you want it locked, and opens with one press when you arrive.

How it behaves day to day

  • Opening angle: up to 120 degrees.
  • Hold-open time: adjustable from 5 to 30 seconds, so the door stays open long enough to get through at your own pace.
  • Obstructions: Open Sesame says the opener halts when something blocks the door during a cycle.
  • Using it by hand: when the opener is not running, its clutch disengages, so the door can be opened manually as normal.
  • Power cuts: an internal battery keeps it working if the power fails.
  • Wiring: low-voltage 24-volt wiring, with a 24V AC adapter that plugs into an outlet.

A standard remote with a sensitivity paddle comes with the opener. You can add other ways to open the door, such as wall push pads, a keypad, a proximity tag or a voice interface. Find them in the ramps and door openers collection.

Mounting

Open Sesame offers a door mount for doors that open inward, a lintel mount for doors that open outward, and a parallel mount for wider angles, recesses, and storm or screen doors. Which one you need depends on your door, and that is settled before installation.

Delivery and installation

An opener and its electric strike are fitted to your door and frame and adjusted to the door's weight and swing. We work with a team of credentialed local specialists to guarantee timely, safe, and optimal delivery and installation.

The price depends on your door and the ways you want to open it, so it is not on the shelf. The fit check on the product page asks a few questions and gives you the price for your door. Delivery coverage is on our shipping by state page.
