Harmar AL425HD hoist: a 450 lb truck lift for heavier devices

Pickup owners with a heavy power chair or scooter have fewer choices than most, because many inside lifts stop well short of the weight. The Harmar AL425HD 2-axis Hoist Lift raises that ceiling to 450 lb. It is the heavy-duty version of Harmar's AL425, and it is built for one kind of vehicle only: trucks.

Built around the truck

Harmar's AL425 series page lists the AL425HD as compatible with trucks only, where the standard AL425 also fits vans and SUVs. Both models lift and rotate under power. The heavy-duty version also has a taller arm height range and a longer minimum length, set out below.

The series shares some useful details. An offset post allows safe unloading at the vehicle's side, so you are not stepping out into the road behind the truck. A weather-resistant remote control comes with it, and a wireless key fob is an option. Installation can be on the passenger or the driver side.

Is it the right fit?

Harmar lists manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters as devices it handles. Consider the AL425HD if:

  • You drive a truck and want the device to ride in the bed rather than on a hitch.
  • Your device is heavier than lighter-duty truck hoists can manage, up to 450 lb.
  • You can provide the 30 in of headroom the series needs.

If the bed has a cover, a cap or a toolbox, mention it in the fit check. Anything that changes the space above or beside the lift changes what will work.

Specs at a glance

According to Harmar:

  • Lifting capacity: 450 lb
  • Vehicles: trucks only
  • Installed weight: 70 lb
  • Arm height: 31.5 in to 46.5 in
  • Adjustable length: 26.25 in to 33.5 in
  • Headroom required: 30 in
  • Powered: lifting and rotation

  • Options: battery pack, custom adapters, custom docking device, folding arm, wireless remote

Compared with the standard AL425, which Harmar rates at 400 lb with an arm height of 30 in to 41 in, the HD has a higher arm range and a 50 lb higher rating.

Included parts

A universal base adapter comes with the lift. Securement is through a docking device, which Harmar says is not included. A custom docking device is one of the options, so tell us what you ride when you complete the fit check.

Warranty

Harmar's vehicle lift warranty applies. In brief:

  • Parts (material, mechanical and electrical components) are covered for three years.
  • It is transferable as long as the application is approved by Harmar's Compatibility Calculator.
  • Labor cost, batteries, paint, rust and covers are not covered, and neither are maintenance and adjustments.
  • Defects in the vehicle the lift is installed on are not covered.
  • Installation must be by an Authorized Harmar Distributor or Certified Harmar Installer, with the certificate returned to Harmar within ten days of installation.

How installation and pricing work

We work with a team of credentialed local specialists to guarantee timely, safe, and optimal delivery and installation.

Every truck bed and every device is a little different, so we do not list a shelf price for this hoist. The fit check on the product page asks about your truck and your device and then shows the price for that pairing. Delivery information by state is on our shipping by state page.
