Vive Core Wheelchair: a steel folding chair in three seat widths

Seat width is the one measurement that shapes comfort more than any other, and it is also the one people most often guess. The Vive Core Wheelchair, new on our shelf, removes some of the guesswork: our listing offers it in three widths. Here is what Vive publishes about it.

What it is and who it suits

The Core is a full-size folding wheelchair with a steel frame, push handles at the back and large 24 inch rear wheels. Vive suggests it for older adults, for people recovering after surgery, and for anyone with limited mobility who wants a sturdy chair to use every day.

Getting in and out is easier because the padded armrests swing back out of the way. A leg strap helps keep the rider's legs in place, the footrests move to suit different leg lengths, and hand brakes help on stops and slopes. The chair folds to 11 inches wide for storage (Vive Health: Core Wheelchair).

Our listing offers the three seat widths as separate options, so you can choose the one that matches the rider.

Key specs

These figures come from Vive's Core Wheelchair product page, which gives the dimensions for the 18 inch seat:

  • Seat: 18 by 16 inches (width by depth)
  • Seat height: 19.5 inches
  • Overall size: 43 inches long, 36 inches high, 25 inches wide
  • Folded width: 11 inches
  • Wheels: 8 inches in front, 24 inches in back
  • Footrest setting: 15 to 20 inches
  • Chair weight: 39 lbs
  • Weight capacity: 250 lbs
  • Material: steel

Picking a width

A common way to start is to measure the rider's hips at the widest point while they sit on a firm chair, then choose the seat that leaves a little room on each side. Too narrow and the armrests press in; too wide and the chair grows bulkier in doorways and hallways. If the rider wears a heavy coat for much of the year, allow for it. When in doubt, a therapist or clinician who knows the rider can advise.

What's in the box

Vive lists the contents as one Core Wheelchair (Vive Health).

Warranty

Vive's published guarantee terms for this product are on its Core Wheelchair product page.

Vive asks for registration inside 30 days of buying the chair. Vive's guarantee policy page covers the general rules.

Everyday care

A little attention keeps any wheelchair rolling well. Once a week or so, check that the hand brakes hold the chair firmly, that the wheels spin without wobbling, and that the armrests still swing back and lock in place. Wipe the upholstery when it gets dirty, and keep the chair dry when it is stored. If a part loosens or wears, contact us and we will help you work out what is needed.
