Vive positions the All Terrain Knee Walker as an alternative to crutches for someone getting around after an injury or surgery to the foot, leg or knee. You rest the affected leg on the padded platform and push along with the other, steering with the handlebar (Vive Health).
Who it suits
The four 12-inch pneumatic tires are what set this model apart. Vive says they are made for indoor and outdoor surfaces, including gravel, grass and uneven paths (Vive Health). If the knee walker will spend most of its time on smooth floors indoors, the standard Knee Walker in the related list may be enough.
Features worth knowing
The matte black steel frame supports up to 350 lbs and folds for storage and transport. The resilient foam knee platform adjusts in height and can come off for more compact storage, and the handlebars adjust too. Dual rear brakes include a lock. Vive recommends 20 PSI in the tires (Vive Health), so a small pump is worth keeping at home.
How it compares
Vive makes two knee walkers. The standard Knee Walker rolls on four 8-inch polyurethane wheels, measures 16 inches across at the front, and has a knee pad that adjusts from 18 to 23 inches; Vive rates it for 300 lbs (Vive Health). The All Terrain moves up to 12-inch pneumatic tires, an 18-inch frame, a knee platform from 20 to 26 inches and a 350 lb rating. Air-filled tires need their pressure checked from time to time, so keep a pump handy. If most of the walking is indoors or on pavement, the standard model may be all you need; for yards, gravel and rough paths, the All Terrain is built for it.

The knee platform adjusts from 20 to 26 inches high, the frame is 18 inches wide, and the walker weighs about 25 lbs (Vive Health). Lifting 25 lbs into a car trunk is worth thinking about before you order, especially if a caregiver will do the lifting.
