Pride Jazzy Carbon 27X: a power chair that folds upright

Most folding power chairs fold flat, like a suitcase. The Pride Jazzy Carbon 27X closes the way a manual wheelchair does: its X-frame folds in an upright position (Pride Mobility), into a bundle 34 inches long, 12 wide and 30 high (Pride specifications). That narrow shape can suit a closet corner or the space behind a car seat.

Leave the battery out and it weighs 27.5 lbs (Pride specifications).

Capacity, range and battery

Note the rating before anything else: 275 lbs (Pride specifications), a little under many of Pride's chairs. Its top speed is 3.7 mph, and a 3.5 lb, 10 Ah lithium battery gives as much as 8 miles (Pride specifications). Pride describes the battery as airline compliant (Pride Mobility). Before any flight, check the current rules with your airline.

Seat and ride

You sit on an 18 by 18-inch sling with a padded back and a removable cushion (Pride specifications). The front wheels are 7 inches and the rear 10, there are 3 inches of clearance, and it turns in 35.4 inches (Pride specifications). Unfolded, the chair is 23 by 41 inches (Pride specifications).
