Pride Go Go Ultra X Gen 3 4-wheel: more legroom for travel

The Pride Go Go Ultra X Gen 3 (model SC493) is new on our shelf. It is a four-wheel travel scooter, and Pride reworked the deck for this generation: there is more room for your legs, more space to step through, and a surface that wipes clean easily (Pride Mobility: Go Go Ultra X Gen 3).

Who it suits

This is a straightforward scooter for errands and outings that rides in the car. Riders up to 300 lbs can use it, and it splits into five pieces, of which the front, at 36.2 lbs, is the heaviest. Taller riders, or anyone who likes to shift their feet around on a longer ride, will appreciate the extra deck room.

Steering is by wigwag levers, and Pride notes you can work them with your thumbs, fingers or both, so you can switch hands as you tire.

Key specs

Figures from Pride Mobility's specification sheet:

  • Model number: SC493
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs.
  • Maximum speed: up to 4.3 mph
  • Range (12 Ah): up to 7.1 miles at 300 lbs.; up to 8.9 miles at 220 lbs.
  • Turning radius: 48.75"
  • Overall length: 41.50"

Charging and range

The two 12 Ah batteries sit in a 20 lb pack. You can plug in at the tiller or at the battery box itself, so you can charge with the pack in place or carry it inside. The published range is up to 8.9 miles for a 220 lb rider and up to 7.1 miles at 300 lbs. Top speed is up to 4.3 mph.

Two ports may sound like a small detail, but it means you can top up the charge without lifting anything out of the car, or bring just the pack indoors on a cold night.

Size and turning

The scooter is 41.50 inches long and 19.25 inches wide, and it weighs 83.4 lbs without batteries. Its turning radius is 48.75 inches. If you need a tighter turn indoors, compare it with the Elite Traveller Gen 3, which uses EZ Turn, or with a three-wheel model. The compact seat folds and measures 17 by 17 inches.

Before you order

  • Lift test: the front section weighs 36.2 lbs.
  • Range check: compare your usual outing with the 12 Ah figures, and leave a margin.
  • Turning check: measure the tightest turn at home against the 48.75-inch radius.
  • Trunk check: compare the 41.50-inch length with your cargo space.

If you are weighing this model against others, the free fit assessment is a good place to start, and our shipping by state page covers how it reaches your door.
