Harmar AL425 2-axis hoist: a 400 lb inside lift for vans and SUVs

A hoist lift works a little like a small crane inside your vehicle. It is fixed in the cargo area, and its arm raises your device off the ground and swings it inside. The Harmar AL425 2-axis Hoist Lift is one of the stronger hoists in Harmar's range, and it is new on our shelf.

What "2-axis" means

The two axes are the two movements the lift does under power: lifting and rotation. On the AL425 page, Harmar lists power lifting and power rotation. You guide the device as it moves, but the motors do the heavy work of raising it and turning it into the vehicle.

Harmar also points out a few practical touches. An offset post lets you unload the device safely at the side of the vehicle rather than straight behind it. Because the lift sits inside the cargo area, you can keep using your backup camera. A weather-resistant remote control runs it, and a wireless key fob is an option.

Who it suits

Harmar lists the AL425 for manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters, in vans, SUVs and trucks. You may want to look at it if:

  • You would rather keep the device inside the vehicle, out of the weather, than carry it on a hitch.
  • Your device weighs up to 400 lb.
  • Your cargo area has at least 30 in of headroom for the lift to work.

Headroom is the measurement people forget. Check the height of the cargo opening and the space inside, and remember the device has to clear the opening as it swings in. Seats you fold down to make room also matter, so measure with the vehicle set up the way you plan to drive it.

Warranty

Harmar covers its vehicle lifts under one three-year transferable warranty. For the AL425 that means:

  • 3 years on parts (material, mechanical and electrical components).
  • Labor cost, batteries, paint, rust and covers are excluded, as are maintenance and adjustments.
  • It starts on the date of initial installation; the certificate goes back to Harmar within 10 days of installation.
  • The lift must be installed, maintained and operated properly by an Authorized Harmar Distributor or Certified Harmar Installer.
  • It is transferable when the application is approved by Harmar's Compatibility Calculator.

Delivery and installation

An inside hoist has to be fixed to the vehicle and adjusted for your device before it is used. We work with a team of credentialed local specialists to guarantee timely, safe, and optimal delivery and installation.

The price depends on your vehicle, your device and the docking device it needs, so there is no single shelf price. The fit check on the product page asks about those and then gives you your price. For delivery where you live, see shipping by state.
