Harmar AL225: a 2-axis hoist that lifts and turns for you

With a basic hoist, the motor lifts and your arms do the turning. The Harmar AL225 2 Axis Hoist Lift powers both. That second powered axis is the whole point of this lift, and it can make a real difference for someone who finds pushing a hanging scooter or chair into the vehicle hard work. It is now on our shelf.

What it is and who it suits

The AL225 is an inside hoist. It mounts in the vehicle, picks up the mobility device through a docking device, and turns it into the cargo area under power. On the AL225 page, Harmar lists dual-axis powered rotation and lifting, adjustable arm height, a weather-resistant remote control with a wireless option, and an offset post so the device is unloaded safely beside the vehicle. Harmar also says the AL225 lets you keep using your vehicle's backup camera.

It is passenger side as standard, and Harmar invites you to ask about a driver side option.

Think about the AL225 if:

  • Your manual wheelchair, power wheelchair or scooter is within the capacity below.
  • You drive a minivan, SUV, truck or van.
  • You would like the device inside the vehicle, sheltered from the weather.
  • Guiding a device by hand as it rotates is difficult for you or your caregiver.

The AL225 shares its capacity with the Harmar AL215 Single Axis Hoist Lift. The difference is who does the turning. If manual rotation is fine for your household, the AL215 is the lighter, simpler of the two.

Key specs

Figures from Harmar's AL225 product page:

  • Lifting capacity: 250 lb
  • Carries: manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters
  • Installed weight: 55 lb
  • Arm height: 30 in to 40 in
  • Adjustable length: 21 in to 32 in
  • Operation: power rotation and power lifting
  • Mounting side: passenger side standard, driver side option
  • Securement: docking device
  • Vehicles: minivans, SUVs, trucks and vans
  • Options: battery pack, custom adapters and a wireless remote

Before you settle on any inside hoist, measure the height and width of your cargo opening and compare it with your device. The arm can only bring the device in if the device fits through the door.

What comes with it

A universal base adapter is included, according to Harmar.

Warranty

The AL225 is covered by the Harmar vehicle lift warranty. In short:

  • What is covered: parts, meaning material, mechanical and electrical components, for three years.
  • When it starts: on the date of initial installation, with the certificate returned to Harmar within ten days of installation.
  • Conditions: installed, maintained and operated properly by an authorized Harmar distributor or certified installer.
  • Not covered: labor cost, batteries, paint, rust, covers, maintenance and adjustments.
  • Transfer: allowed when Harmar's Compatibility Calculator approves the new application.

Delivery and installation

A powered hoist has to be positioned so it reaches your device and clears the vehicle opening on every swing. We work with a team of credentialed local specialists to guarantee timely, safe, and optimal delivery and installation.

The AL225 carries no shelf price. The fit check on its product page asks about your vehicle and device and then gives you the price for that setup. For delivery where you live, see shipping by state.
