Golden LiteRider 4-wheel: a portable scooter for daily errands

The Golden LiteRider 4-wheel (model GL141) is new on our shelf. Golden pitches it for daily errands or leisure rides, and like the three-wheel LiteRider it separates into six pieces without any wiring to unplug (Golden Technologies: LiteRider 4-Wheel).

Who it suits

Golden's reason for the four-wheel version is stability, so it suits a rider up to 300 lbs who prefers four wheels under them on sidewalks and outdoor paths. Golden lists a range of 12.5 miles from two 22AH batteries and a top speed of 5 mph.

The no-wires design keeps packing simple: the pieces lift apart and go back together without plugging anything in.

Key specs

  • User weight capacity: 300 lbs
  • Maximum speed: 5 mph
  • Operating range: 12.5 miles

  • Length: 43.25"
  • Width: 22"

Loading it

Assembled, the LiteRider 4-wheel weighs 133 lbs. The 52 lb front half is the heaviest piece. The others are lighter: 28 lbs for the rear half, 21 lbs for the seat and 29 lbs for each battery pack. If that front half is more than you would like to lift, the three-wheel LiteRider's is 44 lbs.

Features

Standard equipment includes a Delta tiller, an LED headlight you can aim, electro-mechanical brakes and a freewheel mode for pushing the scooter by hand when it is off. The high-back seat sits 23.5 to 25.5 inches off the ground, and the deck clears the ground by 3.75 inches.

The four-wheel layout needs more room to turn: 48 inches against 39 for the three-wheel model. The scooter is 43.25 inches long and 22 inches wide, on 9-inch solid tires that will never need air.

How it compares

The four-wheel LiteRider and its three-wheel sibling share their capacity, seat, batteries and no-wires design. The four-wheeler gives a steadier stance and a published 12.5-mile range, at the cost of a 48-inch turning radius and a 52 lb front half. The Buzzaround EX 4-wheel is a step up in capacity (350 lbs) and range (18 miles), with a 53 lb heaviest piece.

Six pieces may sound like a lot, but smaller pieces mean lighter lifts, and the absence of wiring makes reassembly quick.

Before you order

  • Lifting: the front half is 52 lbs and each battery pack 29 lbs.
  • Turning: measure the tightest turn at home against the 48-inch radius.
  • Range: compare your usual outing with the 12.5-mile figure.
  • Seat: check the 23.5 to 25.5 inch seat height against the chairs you transfer to.

Our fit assessment can help you narrow the choice, and the shipping by state page explains delivery to the lower 48 states and DC.
