Vive Health843 OA Knee Brace Replacement Pads Set, RightGolden Cricket: a carbon fiber folding power chair
Golden builds the Cricket (model GP302) entirely from carbon fiber (Golden Technologies), and it folds. Strip off the battery, joystick, cushion and bag and Golden says it can weigh as little as 33 lbs; assembled, the figure is 39.3 lbs (Golden Technologies). If you lift a chair into a car often, those numbers matter.
Getting around
Golden rates it for 300 lbs, with a 3.7 mph top speed and as much as 9.3 miles from its 24-volt, 12 Ah lithium-ion battery (Golden Technologies). Golden calls that battery airline-approved (Golden Technologies). Rules for flying with batteries can change, so confirm with your airline.
For a folding chair, its 22-inch turning radius (Golden Technologies) is tight, which helps when you pull up to a table or turn in a doorway. The footprint is 22.5 by 36.6 inches (Golden Technologies).
Seat and details
You sit 19.3 inches up on a 17.3 by 16.5-inch seat with a padded cushion you can lift out, a mesh back and arms that flip up (Golden Technologies). The tires will not go flat or mark the floor, with 8.5-inch rear wheels and 7-inch casters, and Golden includes a USB charging port (Golden Technologies).
Who it suits
The Cricket fits someone who drives mostly on smooth floors and paths, travels often, and wants the lightest lift Golden offers. It is also worth comparing its seat height with the bed, sofa and car seat you move to and from most, since its 19.3-inch seat height (Golden Technologies) sits on the low side for a power chair.
