Golden Buzzaround LT 3-wheel: an easy-lift scooter for short trips

New on our shelf: the Golden Buzzaround LT 3-wheel. It is compact, it separates into pieces for the trunk, and Golden says it is maneuverable indoors with a smooth ride outdoors (Golden Technologies: Buzzaround LT 3-Wheel).

Who it suits

The LT 3-wheel is for a rider up to 300 lbs who needs a scooter mainly for short outings, store visits and travel, and who values an easy lift above all. The heaviest piece is only 28 lbs. After that come the rear half at 20.5 lbs, the seat with arms at 13.5 lbs, and two battery packs at 17.5 lbs apiece. That may mean loading the car without help.

Three wheels and a 39-inch turning radius suit stores, restaurants and homes with tight corners. The scooter is 41.75 inches long and 19 to 21 inches wide.

Range and speed

Top speed is 4 mph and Golden lists a range of up to 7 miles. That is a scooter for errands and outings rather than all-day touring. If you often ride farther, carry a charger or choose a model with bigger batteries.

Seat and setup

The seat is 16 by 14 inches and sits 19 to 21 inches from the ground. That is compact, so it suits shorter rides best. A color display on the console shows you what you need at a glance.

It arrives in red, with a spare blue set of shrouds packed in the box, so you can change the color whenever you like. With 2.5 inches of clearance under the deck it is happiest on smooth ground: sidewalks, store floors, paved paths.

How it compares

The LT 3-wheel is one of the lightest scooters to load on our shelf, piece by piece. The four-wheel LT adds stability but its front half is 37.5 lbs. Pride's Go Go Ultra X 3-wheel is a close match, with a 29.5 lb heaviest piece and a longer published range. If you would like more range and a bigger seat, the Buzzaround XL 3-wheel steps up with a 32 lb heaviest piece and optional larger batteries.
