Feather Chair 18": a 19 lb wheelchair that folds in moments

Most folding wheelchairs make you choose between a sturdy chair and a light one. Feather Mobility set out to narrow that gap, and the Feather Chair 18" is the result. It is now on our shelf, and below is what Feather says about it.

What it is and who it suits

The Feather Chair is a lightweight folding wheelchair with large rear wheels. Complete, it weighs 19 lbs. Pop the rear wheels off and the bare frame is 13.5 lbs, which is the piece you lift into the car. Folding is a two-step job: drop the backrest, then lift the center of the seat. Feather says that getting it open again and putting the wheels back on takes under a minute.

Controls sit where each person needs them. A companion gets bicycle-style brake levers at the push handles, which lock. The rider gets wheel locks mounted up front on the frame, within reach from the seat. Armrests run the full length of the seat, and the footrests swing aside for transfers. Its nylon upholstery is charcoal, trimmed in orange.

Feather rates the 18 inch model at 300 lbs for chairs made from January 2026 onward. This chair suits riders who travel often, riders who load their own chair, or have a companion who would rather not lift a heavy steel frame.

Our listing offers it standard or with quick-release wheels and anti-tippers.

Standard or with anti-tippers?

Anti-tippers are small arms at the back of a wheelchair that stop the chair from rocking too far backward, for example when the rider leans back or goes up a curb. Some riders and companions like the extra peace of mind; others find them in the way when tipping the chair over a step on purpose. If you are unsure which version to order, think about where the chair will be used most, and contact us with any questions.
