Bruno VPL-3153 and VPL-3175: a home platform lift for entry steps

A few steps at the front door can stop a wheelchair or scooter user as surely as a full flight of stairs. A ramp is one answer, but it needs a lot of room. The Bruno VPL-3153/3175 Vertical Platform Lift, now on our shelf, is the other: a platform that rises straight up from one level to the next while the rider stays in their chair.

What it is and who it suits

These are residential lifts that Bruno rates for indoor or outdoor use. Each one takes a single rider together with their mobility device and serves two stops, such as the driveway and the porch, or the garage floor and the kitchen door.

The two model numbers differ in how high they go. From Bruno's specification sheet:

  • VPL-3153: 11 in minimum to 53 in maximum floor to floor
  • VPL-3175: 28 in minimum to 75 in maximum floor to floor

To know which one you need, measure the height from the lower ground to the upper floor or landing. That single number usually decides the model.

AC or battery

Each model comes in two power versions. The standard units run on AC power (120 VAC, 60 Hz, 8A maximum input) and travel at up to 9 ft/min. The B models are battery (DC) units and travel at up to 10 ft/min, with a 34 AH battery package listed as an upgrade. The B models also weigh a little more, as the figures below show.

Key specs

  • Rated load: 750 lb (340 kg) maximum
  • Passengers: 1 passenger with mobility device
  • Landings: 2-Stop
  • Lower ramp: 16 in, self-lowering
  • Headroom: 80 in minimum
  • Weight: VPL-3153 656 lb; VPL-3175 713 lb; VPL-3153B 665 lb and VPL-3175B 718 lb, without batteries
  • Finish: champagne powder coat
  • Cold-weather package: option, for sites below 20ºF

The 80 in headroom figure matters for indoor installs or a covered porch: check the clearance above where the lift will stand.

Warranty

Bruno's residential VPL warranty covers:

  • All parts for 1 year after installation.
  • Major components (motor, Acme screw and drive nut, brake, pulleys, belt, screw bearings) for 2 years.
  • Labor for the first 30 days after installation, by a Bruno Authorized Dealer.
  • The original buyer, with service and warranty handled through the Bruno Authorized Dealer that installed the lift.

Misuse, abuse, accidents, neglect, consumables and reasonable wear and tear are excluded.

Delivery and installation

A platform lift has to be placed, leveled and set up at the exact spot it will serve, so it arrives with installation. We work with a team of credentialed local specialists to guarantee timely, safe, and optimal delivery and installation.

There is no shelf price, because the model, power choice and options depend on your entry. The fit check on the product page asks about the height and the setting and gives you the price for your home. Delivery coverage is on our shipping by state page.
